Is flexicurity the right medicine for the European youth?

Del:

In 2011, the youth unemployment rate in many European countries rose at an alarming rate. In Spain, it is forecast to remain above 40 per cent for 2011 at least, according to the OECD’s and Eurostats’ recent projections. The rapid growth in youth unemployment is jeopardising the economic future of Europe and could essentially lead to a wasted generation.

The question is, whether Europe has the tools needed to fight the economic tidal waves washing across the region, and secure jobs and educations for the youth of Europe.

The main topic to be debated during the day is if and how the labour market model known as flexicurity has a positive effect in increasing youth employment. We will debate:

  • A new form of flexicurity?
  • Flexibility in the education system?
  • Flexicurity in times of crisis?
  • Is flexicurity the right medicine for the European youth?
  • If flexicurity is not the answer, then what is?
  • Youth, skills and expectations from the companies
  • Corporate responsibility

The one-day conference features an international panel of speakers from policy makers, social partners, and international business and youth organisations.

The conference is part of the European project Pro-Youth with partners from Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Spain and Turkey.
